Olga Herrera Author and Illustrator

My name is Olga Herrera. I am a Latinx Author and Illustrator of children's books. When I was young and adventurous, I joined the circus- no, not really, I earned my BFA from the Ringling College of Art and Design with a major in Illustration. My work is colorful, whimsical, and fun. I love drawing people! Kids, pets, and family members showing emotion, action, and storytelling narrative.
Because I like to talk, I co-founded and host ILLOCHAT, a podcast about the journey of professional illustration. I am a proud member of the SCBWI and Las Musas, and teach illustration, offering mentorships and portfolio reviews.
I am bilingual and enjoy the mixture of my Cuban and Ecuadorian cultural roots.
My latest book, A Light For Lucinda: A Story from the Cuban Revolution, explores my Cuban roots.
I grew up in Ecuador, a country close to my heart and full of beautiful diversity. As a teenager, I returned to Florida, my hometown, and as an adult, I traded year-round summers for the fun of experiencing every season. I now live in the picturesque state of Maryland with my husband, two children, and too many pets.
